Ozzy Osbourne is leading honors to Dusty Hill, the bassist for ZZ Top
Dusty Hill, the late bassist of ZZ Top, was honored by Ozzy Osbourne and Paul Stanley.
Dusty was had to cancel a number of gigs around the United States just weeks ago due to a hip ailment, and it was reported on Wednesday (28.07.21) that he passed away in his sleep at his home in Houston, Texas, at the age of 72.
“We are heartbroken by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has died away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX,” bandmates Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard said in a statement.
“We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans all around the world, will miss your constant presence, good humor, and unwavering dedication to bringing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top.'”
“We’ll always be linked to the ‘Blues Shuffle in C.’ You will be sorely missed, amigo.”
Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath stated on Instagram, “Rest In Peace #DustyHill of @ZZTop.” My condolences to @BillyfGibbons and Frank Beard, as well as all #ZZTop fans worldwide.”

While the KISS frontman praised his touring companion as an “icon” who was always a “gentleman,”
He expressed himself like follows: “I’m speechless! Dusty Hill is a place on the outskirts of town. What a legend. Forever, @ZZTop’s bassist. So distinct. From the first time we opened for them to the most recent time we opened for them, he has always been a gentleman. “Thank you” and “Rest however you damn well choose!” are all I have to say.
Paul Young, a huge ZZ Top fan, tweeted: “I have to say farewell to one of the members of That Lil’ Ol Band From Texas with a heavy heart: RIP Dusty Hill of ZZ Top. This brand has been one of my favorites since I was 14 years old, and they are without a doubt the coolest band on the globe! Frank and Rev. Billy G (sic), please accept my condolences to his family.”
Dusty’s death has yet to be established, and it’s unknown whether it was caused by the hip injury.
The band announced a few weeks ago that the veteran bassist would be withdrawing from ZZ Top’s shows, but that the show would go on “per Dusty’s request.”
They had previously stated in another statement: “Billy and Frank, members of ZZ Top, would want to let you know that Dusty, their brave bassist, is taking a little detour back to Texas to handle a hip issue. They are hoping for a quick recovery and to have him back as soon as possible.
“‘The show must go on!’ according to Dusty’s desire. With that directive, ZZ Top has enlisted the help of Mr. Elwood Francis, their go-to guitar tech for the previous two decades, who is currently playing slide guitar, bass guitar, and harmonica.
“And with Elwood on our right, you can bet ZZ Top will put on their signature good time show,’ added Billy F Gibbons. ‘Billy’s massive guitar, Mr. Beard’s pounding drums, and Elwood securing the bottom end keep the delivery going with those iconic three chords we all love’.”
Dusty was a founder member of the rock band, and in 2004 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
